# Explanation: drilling log

A drilling log is a technical document in which all essential information relating to a drilling operation is systematically recorded. It serves as evidence, documentation and a basis for subsequent analyses or further work.

Typically, a drilling log contains:

- general project data such as the construction site, client, contractor and the period during which the work was carried out
- technical details of the drilling, e.g. drilling rig, drilling method, borehole diameter and final depth
- information on strata or depths, documenting the drilling progress section by section
- tools and methods used, such as drill bits, drilling fluids or casing
- measurement and operational data, e.g. diameter, pressure or type of drilling fluid
- Comments on interruptions, special features or difficulties encountered during the work
- The signature of a qualified technician confirming the details

The drilling log ensures that the procedure and results of a drilling operation are documented in a traceable and audit-proof manner.
