# Explanation: borehole profile (Geothermal energy)

A **borehole profile for geothermal boreholes** is a specialised form of borehole profile which, in addition to the geological structure of the subsoil, illustrates the installation of a geothermal probe.

In addition to the usual contents of a borehole profile, the focus is particularly on:

- the representation of the geothermal probe, e.g. as a double-U probe in the borehole
- the backfilling of the annulus, usually with materials such as bentonite for thermal coupling and sealing
- technical details of the installation that are relevant to the subsequent operation of the system

The borehole profile for geothermal boreholes serves, in particular, to document, in a transparent manner, the professional installation of the probes as well as the geological conditions for the use of geothermal energy.
