# Borehole master data

In the **borehole master data** section, you record the basic information for a single borehole. This information forms the basis for further entries in BoreDoc and for documents and evaluations derived from it.

This section is used in particular to maintain:

- the borehole designation for clear identification within a drilling site
- the borehole location using coordinates and elevation data
- general technical framework data for the borehole
- further basic data that is used in downstream documents

The master data describes the borehole itself. Content such as **drilling sections**, **stratigraphic index**, **sample index**, **lining (strang)** and **backfilling** is maintained in the respective specialist sections of the borehole.

The master data is reused in the following outputs, amongst others:

- **Site plan (sketch)** based on the coordinates
- **Geological cross-section** based on coordinates, elevation and strata
- **Drilling log** together with drilling sections and other borehole data
- further documents that clearly identify or spatially locate the borehole

Notes for maintaining the master data:

- Record coordinates and elevation data as completely and correctly as possible.
- Use a consistent elevation reference system within one drilling site.
- Maintain the master data early, before moving deeper into the specialist documentation of the borehole.
- Changes to the master data immediately affect dependent documents and evaluations.
