# Master data for a borehole

In the **master data for a borehole**, you enter the basic information relating to an individual borehole. This information forms the basis for further entries in BoreDoc and for documents and reports derived from it.

In particular, you maintain the following here:

- the borehole designation for unique identification within a drilling site
- the location of the borehole via coordinates and elevation data
- general technical background data for the borehole
- further basic data used in subsequent documents

The master data describes the borehole itself. Content such as **drilling sections**, **stratigraphic index**, **sample register**, **lining (lining)** and **backfill** are maintained in the respective sections of the borehole.

The information from the master data is reused in the following outputs, amongst others:

- **site plan (sketch)** based on coordinates
- **geological cross-section** based on coordinates, elevation and strata
- **drilling log** together with borehole sections and other borehole data
- other documents that uniquely identify the borehole or locate it spatially

Guidance on maintaining master data:

- Record coordinates and elevation data as completely and accurately as possible.
- Use a consistent elevation reference system within a single drilling site.
- Maintain the master data at an early stage, before delving deeper into the technical documentation of the borehole.
- Changes to the master data have an immediate effect on dependent documents and reports.
