# Location / Coordinates

Here you can record the geographical position of the borehole. The coordinates enable unambiguous spatial mapping and form the basis for spatial visualisations and analyses in BoreDoc.

The selected coordinate reference system determines how the position is entered and displayed. BoreDoc supports both GPS and UTM. When the reference system is changed, the coordinates are automatically converted.

By selecting **‘Determine Position’**, the current position can be imported directly from the device. The accuracy depends on the hardware and reception conditions and may vary by several metres.

Elevation is given in metres. The same elevation reference system should be used consistently within a drilling site, as certain analyses and documents require a uniform reference elevation.

The data from this section is used in particular for:

- **Site plans (sketches)** for the spatial representation of boreholes
- **Geological sections** showing the spatial arrangement of multiple boreholes
- Further analyses requiring the precise location of the borehole

Notes on data maintenance:

- Record the position as completely and precisely as possible.
- Use a consistent elevation reference system within a single drilling site.
- Check the imported equipment location manually if necessary.
- Ensure that the coordinates relate to the actual borehole and not just to the general construction site.
