# What is a workspace used for?

A **workspace** is used to organise content that is thematically related within BoreDoc. A workspace contains the drill sites and, consequently, the associated boreholes, strata, samples and documents generated from them.

workspaces help you to

- keep projects or orders separate from one another
- clearly group together related drill sites
- share content selectively with other accounts
- manage permissions for collaboration effectively

BoreDoc distinguishes between different types of workspaces:

- **My workspaces** belong to my own account.
- **Other workspaces** have been shared for editing by other accounts.
- **Local data** and **Local data (deleted)** refer to content that is stored on the current device or marked as deleted there.

workspaces also represent the central authorisation boundary in BoreDoc. Access rights are not granted for individual fields or document components, but for the contents of a workspace.

This makes a workspace suitable, for example, for:

- a single contract or construction site
- separating different clients or projects
- collaboration between the office, the construction site and external partners

Notes on usage:

- Create a workspaces in such a way that the contents it contains are thematically related.
- Use separate workspaces, if different people or accounts are to be granted different access rights.
- Plan sharings via the workspace and not at the level of individual boreholes or documents.
