# Why do I have to log in or register again and again?

You may have noticed that you do not need a traditional password in BoreDoc.

This is possible because the BoreDoc user interface communicates with the server via API keys.

For technical and security reasons, the number of API keys per account is limited. Therefore, a new API key is generated whenever you re-register or log in. This can replace older API keys, thereby rendering them invalid on other devices.

If you use BoreDoc on several devices simultaneously and find yourself having to re-register repeatedly, this is usually because logging in on one device overwrites older API keys on other devices.

If you wish to use BoreDoc on multiple devices permanently, generate and manage the additional accesses keys specifically via device management. For further information, please see the help article [How do I use BoreDoc on multiple devices at the same time?](SM3HEN_boredoc-auf-mehreren-geraeten.md).
